The Department of Education issued a press release yesterday, announcing an outreach campaign to inform federal student loan borrowers about their repayment options, including income-based repayment plans.

"Reaching out to borrowers to ensure that they have the information they need to manage their student loan debt is an important part of the administration's proposals to improve college value and affordability," U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said.

"Thanks to this outreach, coupled with ongoing outreach provided by student loan servicers, borrowers have the opportunity to learn more about their options to lower monthly loan payments and stay on track of their student loans."

The program will target 3.5 million borrowers, especially those that can benefit most from an income-driven repayment plan, and those whose grace period will end soon.
