Posted on Jun 28, 2013

If you owe delinquent 2012 Property Taxes (also called "ad valorem" taxes) to Harris County, Texas your deadline is 11:59 pm on Monday, July 1, 2013 to either (1) pay in full; or (2) establish an installment plan and pay the first payment.

If you don't do either, your account will be turned over to attorneys for collection, and your account will also be subject to a 20% extra charge for attorney's fees. If you are turned over for collection, you can be sued and after a judgment is obtained against you, your property can be sold at public auction.

Don't delay. Pay your taxes today; waiting can only add more expense to what you already owe. You can pay it online at www.hctax.net, but you will have to pay surcharge to use a credit card. You can also pay by telephone at 713-368-2273 using a touch tone phone. If you have any other questions about your tax account, you can call the county Tax Office at 713-368-2000.

If you are just unable to pay and don't have any other options, or if you have other debt problems, you may want to consider filing chapter 13. We have many clients who owe property taxes and chapter 13 can stop tax lawsuits and tax foreclosures and give the tax payer up to 5 years to pay the delinquent taxes.
