Houston Bankruptcy Attorney, J. Thomas Black

J. Thomas Black graduated from South Texas College of Law in Houston in 1982, and started his own firm in 1986. Mr. Black has always specialized in consumer and small business bankruptcy law, tax collection defense, debt negotiation and related matters. Mr. Black's firm currently consists of Mr. Black, an associate attorney, three full time legal assistants, and other support staff. Mr. Black was Board Certified in Consumer Bankruptcy Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 1989, and he was re-certified in 1994, 1999 and again in 2004. Mr. Black served as President of the Houston Association of Debtor Attorneys from 1999 until 2002. He has also served on the Local Consumer Bankruptcy Committee, a committee consisting of the bankruptcy judges for the Southern District of Texas, and several prominent trustees and attorneys. Mr. Black is licensed to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Tax Court. He is a Fellow of the College of the State Bar of Texas, and a member of the Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas. He is a Fellow of the Houston Bar Foundation. Mr. Black is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the National Association of Consumer Advocates, and the Houston Association for Debtor Attorneys.

J. Thomas Black, born 1954 in Los Angeles, California. Mr. Black graduated from Indiana University in 1977, and South Texas College of Law in 1982. Mr. Black is admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas, and the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Black is a Fellow of the College of the State Bar of Texas, 1990-current; President, Houston Association of Debtor Attorneys, 1999-2002.
